PLACE NAMES IN COUNTY LOUTH - DATABASE.
CONTENTS of DATABASE.
The database includes names of baronies, towns, civil parishes, townlands, villages, streets, lanes and localities that existed in the main from pre 1900. In addition for administrative areas the current Irish (Gaelic) form is given.
In the case of baronies, towns (with legally defined boundaries), boroughs, civil parishes and townlands these are all administrative areas that have been mapped. See on County Louth Home page under 'Divisions' for further information on these districts.
In the case of non administrative areas such as villages, streets, lanes, localities, mountain ridges etc. the name of the townland where situated is given. If a place name such as a street name appeared in more than one record it is listed each time in order to give some idea of the time period it was in existence.
For all place names the source record and year of publication is given:
